Abstract

The rapid expansion of enterprise cloud networks has increased the complexity of cybersecurity management, creating new challenges in identifying sophisticated threats across distributed infrastructures. Traditional security mechanisms, including signature-based intrusion detection and static traffic filtering, often struggle to detect zero-day attacks, evolving malware communication, insider threats, and abnormal network behaviors. This study investigates a multi-layer cyber threat identification framework that integrates machine learning-based traffic inspection with intelligent network monitoring to improve enterprise cloud security. The proposed framework examines network traffic at multiple analytical layers, including packet characteristics, flow behavior, transport protocols, application-level interactions, and user activity patterns. Supervised learning algorithms classify known malicious traffic, while unsupervised anomaly detection techniques identify previously unseen deviations from normal network behavior. Feature engineering, traffic correlation, temporal analysis, and risk-based alert prioritization are incorporated to strengthen threat identification across interconnected cloud services. The methodology evaluates model effectiveness using accuracy, precision, recall, F1-score, false-positive rate, and detection latency. Additional considerations include scalability, encrypted traffic inspection, privacy protection, and adaptability to changing attack patterns. The proposed approach aims to provide comprehensive visibility across enterprise cloud networks while reducing unnecessary security alerts and improving incident response efficiency. Through comparative experimental evaluation, this research establishes a framework for assessing how layered machine learning-based traffic inspection can strengthen threat detection, support proactive defense, and improve the resilience of modern enterprise cloud environments.
